In the words of the great Willie Nelson, “No place but Texas would I ever roam. No place but Texas, my home sweet home”. Luckily for us, the couple in our Feature Wedding, Ashley and Kevin, roamed far from their Texas home to tie the knot in Whistler surrounded by a delightful crowd of friends and family. And all we can say is, those Texans sure know how to party.
Selecting the gorgeous Nita Lake Lodge for their nuptials was an inspired choice on a stunning Fall day with deep blue skies as the backdrop for our famed wood sculpture set up in the porte cochere. Our hearts were well and truly wrung by the flower girl and ring bearers, all children taught by teacher Ashley (how sweet a gesture is that?) and by Ashley’s sorority sister bridesmaids who later celebrated their sorority connection by singing a fine rendition of their sorority song!
Following a deeply meaningful and beautiful ceremony led by Jeremy the Whistler Wedding Pastor, the party moved indoors to the Nita Lake Lodge ballroom, set up with a family table for the bridal party and round tables for guests, a particularly convivial seating arrangement which we always think is perfect. Ashley and Kevin had selected our ‘rustic’ decor package, which somehow seemed perfect for Texans, and our decor was enhanced with lush greenery and roses from perennial favourite Senka Florist.
The Nita Lake Lodge kitchen came up trumps with a fabulous feast, including a cake from the pastry chef, and even Texan tummies were groaning. We loved that this was a wedding with all the fun old traditions; first dance, garter toss, bouquet toss, the lot. The dance floor was packed from start to finish thanks to the skills of master of the turntable Pete fromCoast Mountain DJ, and the fun was made even funner with guests taking full advantage of the supplied glow sticks and flashing glasses! (we joined in, natch, we can never resist glow sticks) and the photo booth by Cheesebox saw brisk trade throughout the evening.
This was a wedding we will never forget, Texans are our new favourite thing and Texas has been added to our travel bucket list. There’s another quote about Texas, attributed to Davy Crockett….”you can all go to hell, I will go to Texas”. Davy, we’ll join you if we may.
