Now and then a wedding comes along requiring the precision planning of a military campaign. We relish these weddings because they allow us to spring into action with our much vaunted teamwork, something in which we take great pride.
Such was the wedding of Georgina (achingly beautiful bride, see the gallery) and her handsome groom Henry.
Tasked with getting a sizeable group of guests from the Fairmont Chateau to the heli-pad so that Blackcomb Helicopters could fly them in multiple groups up to the high alpine ceremony site, and then back again to the Fairmont for the reception, we called in most of the troops, with 3 planners stationed at the hotel to set up the reception space, marshall guests and coordinate with the fabulous Fairmont team, and 4 planners at the heli-pad and at the ceremony site. Nothing, but nothing, was left to chance. As is our wont.
Thanks to meticulous pre-planning, guests were already assigned a flight group before we even started, and can we say those guests each get a gold star from us for being a) in the right place b) at the right time, and c) for remembering their flight group numbers! They were awesome!
Huge shout-out to the amazing and professional team of staff, guides and pilots at Blackcomb Helicopters who took this big group in their stride and flew everyone safely and smoothly to the ceremony sight at Beverly Lake, and then back to the heli-pad for shuttle to the Fairmont, courtesy of the prompt and efficient services of Glacier Coach Lines
While awaiting the arrival of the bride, guests were serenaded by beautiful music from V&G Music. Is there anything more dreamlike than classical instruments played in an alpine setting? Georgina and Henry pledged themselves to each other beneath cerulean skies amidst the peace and silence of the high alpine peaks. The ceremony was punctuated with light-hearted moments, such as when the bride’s veil took flight, and when the officiant Gerry from Young Hip and Married almost came to grief on the slippery rocks! But such incidents make for great storytelling in future years and were greeted with laughter from couple and guests.
Our decor and styling team transformed the rooftop Woodlands Terrace into a fairyland that brought to mind A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with a green and white theme enhanced by our gold decor package details, and of course lush florals from our beloved Senka.
Whisteria Rentals created a to-die-for vintage lounge area in one corner, which was very popular with guests for sitting purposes and for photo opportunities. There are plenty of places to rent vintage and antique furniture but what we love about Whisteria are their thoughtful finishing details such as their personal collection of antique perfume bottles (we want those!)
Fairmont’s chef and talented kitchen team delivered a drool-worthy meal, followed by a fabulous cake from the pastry chef. Kudos to all. The evening rocked on to the talented sounds of the Phonix Band which had the dance floor busy throughout, and we venture to think the couple and all their guests retired to bed tired but happy, to dream of this delightful wedding day.
